For the past few days I have been continuing to work on my 3D modeling program. I have created various objects such as penguins and a pair of dice. All of these tutorials are teaching me about the different features of Blender and how I can use them. What I find the most interesting so far is how you have to use different tricks to model round objects because round objects are made of flat faces. It takes a lot of experience to decide how many faces to use and where to put them because too few faces make the object look unrealistic but too many faces make the computer very slow at loading the object.
In the architect's office today the team is working hard to meet a deadline. They are trying to finish final details of a house design so that they can have the final drawings complete and ready to show to the builders. These drawings are 2D paper drawings, but they do have some similar aspects to the 3D drawing I am learning to do. The designer uses a computer program to aid in making these 2D drawings, and this program makes it easier for the designer to make the drawing to scale. The drawings must be very detailed with labels of dimensions and materials for each feature.
Most of what the team has been doing today is to discuss small details and to make sure the design is exactly what they want. This includes making sure that they know the exact dimensions and placement of the materials and that they can get the materials at a reasonable price. There are so many details to keep track of that it seems amazing to me that no one makes a mistake or forgets something important. This is why the drawings are so important because they contain all the important information
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:
-describe something you learned
-explain something that surprised you
-give an update about stuff you're working on
-explain how you solved a problem
-tell a cool story
Also include images, sounds or video from your project.
# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).
Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.
I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!
