Yesterday, May 13th, was the first day of project for Emeline, Nora, and me. a lot of the day was spent planning and doing research for our guidebook, We have decided to separate our book by general attractions and Hispanic attractions in Cleveland. Each one of us took on the task of contacting 2-3 places in our field of interest (places, neighborhoods, churches, nightlight, and etc.) . These places will be major features in the book with photographs and extensive write-ups in Spanish and English. Since yesterday, we have all received some replies and are looking forward to meeting the organizations and learning about how they interact with the Cleveland Latino community.
At our organization, Esperanza, we have been contacting past volunteers and members in both English and Spanish to gage their needs and how the guide book can help the community. We have spoken to a couple of people on the streets, whom for the most part prefer to speak in Spanish. We have learned that a lot of the people do not get a chance to experience all of the things Cleveland has to offer. Places such as, University Circle, are very foreign to the people and with our guidebook, we can bring awareness.
I have spoken to a couple of nightlife places to see if they would like to be involved in our guidebook. For this week, we have planned to meet with a radio station as well ass interview educational institutions in the area.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:
-describe something you learned
-explain something that surprised you
-give an update about stuff you're working on
-explain how you solved a problem
-tell a cool story
Also include images, sounds or video from your project.
# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).
Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.
I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!
