WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:
-describe something you learned
-explain something that surprised you
-give an update about stuff you're working on
-explain how you solved a problem
-tell a cool story

Also include images, sounds or video from your project.

# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).

Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.

I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!

Prayers for Perla

This is Perla, she is 11 years old and today she was finally able to get her tonsils removed!

This morning we left the house at 6am and headed to Múlti Médica, a private run hospital to meet Perla and her family. We met and talked to the doctor and the anesthesiologist.

From the left: Perla's mom, dad, the anesthesiologist, the doctor, and Perla

Sergio(Perla's dad) was very nervous and Perla was nervous as well. Her mom informed us after she had gone into surgery that one of the reasons Perla was so frightened was because of her classmates. Her parents informed the principal that she would be out of school for a few days because of surgery. Then principal told Perla's teacher and the teacher went on to tell the whole class in front of Perla. So all of the kids were making fun of her and saying that the doctors were going to cut her face open to do the surgery. Obviously that isn't true, but most people get nervous before surgeries without the help from bullying kids.

She went into surgery at 7:30am and was done by 9am. These are her removed tonsils, to put this in perspective a healthy persons tonsils would be flat and small. You can almost see the bits of food and infection in them.

We were only able to peak in at Perla after the surgery, but she's doing well. She is still somewhat scared and in pain, and was crying. But she will stay in the hospital until about 3pm resting, and then will be discharged.

Please keep her and her family in your prayers while she recovers over the next few weeks.
