WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:
-describe something you learned
-explain something that surprised you
-give an update about stuff you're working on
-explain how you solved a problem
-tell a cool story

Also include images, sounds or video from your project.

# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).

Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.

I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!

Destino de Esperanza

Today I met a wonderful American woman named Anita when we traveled to the town of Villa Nueva.
Anita has just recently opened an orphanage in Villa Nueva. When I asked Anita how she decided to start an orphanage in Guatemala she gave me a little bit of her background.

-She had adopted a girl from India and she died at 11 and a half years old (she would be 35 now) from a metabolism problem that she was born with. After her daughter died a lady from church invited her to Guatemala to work at an orphanage with her. She went to that same orphanage six times for 4-6 weeks at a time in the next four years after her loss. Then that orphanage was shut down and she told herself that she wanted to open up her own as soon as her husband was ready to go with her. He was never willing to go due to his lack of knowledge in Spanish. About three or four years ago her husband suddenly had a heart attack and died. When that happened she knew she needed to go back to Guatemala and fulfill her dream.

She is finally ready to receive up to 4 children, ages 0-1 (including premature babies) in her new orphanage. This is such great news because she has spent the past 2 and a half years going through paperwork and permits trying to open up an orphanage. This is the current building that is ready. It has two rooms like this.
She is currently in the process of getting a permit to finish building or fixing up an old medical building into another home to expand her orphanage. The reason it has taken her so long with this building is because she had a contractor that did a very poor job, and basically stole her money. Thankfully she has a trusted contractor now.
She is on a campus run by Christian in Action Ministries and has received training from them. She is very excited to finally be open. I can't wait to hear from her when she finally does get some children sent to her. She has a huge heart and great faith, and I will be sure to keep in contact with her.
