WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:
-describe something you learned
-explain something that surprised you
-give an update about stuff you're working on
-explain how you solved a problem
-tell a cool story

Also include images, sounds or video from your project.

# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).

Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.

I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!

Leveling Levels

Today was our first day learning vocab words, including how to write each character. Again, the students had a bit of trouble concentrating while working in groups. We’ve decided that the students may need to work individually as we have LOTS to learn before their final presentation. This makes me nervous because our initial plan for the project was to give the students a free learning environment that they may not get throughout the school day. During observation of Mrs. Wilkerson’s teaching we have observed that she knows when the students should and shouldn’t be working at a level 1.* So the challenge for Lauren and I are to quickly figure this out so the students aren’t working in agonizing silence for two hours a day. That being said, the students seem to still be enjoying the workshops and sessions. We even had a mini quiz in which we asked them their name and they had to respond correctly. The prize for responding correctly was their of chopsticks – to be used in the near future ;)
More pictures to come!
* *Chambers teachers use different voice levels to control noise in classrooms.
Level 1 = silence
Level 2 = "purposeful whisper" (the appropriate tone of voice to use during group work)
...and I don't know what level 3 and 4 are because they never use those voice levels.
