Today we dedicated our time to teaching numbers 1-10. With the help of a rap video we found on Youtube from yoyochinese.com, the kids caught on really quickly. They really loved the song and insisted on listening to it again and again. They did so well that Daijah, Mrs. Wilkerson, and I decided to include it in our final performance on June 4. One of our students, Nia, got really into the song so we think that we'll have her lead the Numbers Song. This is a great relief because we weren't sure how we were going to incorporate the students' knowledge of Chinese numbers in the performance.
We finished the numbers lesson pretty quickly, so we had time to learn Liang Zhi Laohu (Two Tigers), our second song for the final performance. We passed out lyrics sheets so that the students could follow along and read the English translation. The song is about two tigers who are running very quickly. One has no eyes and one has no ears. The last lines of the song sum it up pretty well - "Very strange. Very strange." Moving through that song took a bit longer because that song has more words and moves faster than the Numbers Song. We practiced the song a few times and put away to practice more tomorrow and everyday leading up to the performance. One student, Marissa, actually caught onto Liang Zhi Laohu very quickly, so she could potentially lead the song on June 4.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:
-describe something you learned
-explain something that surprised you
-give an update about stuff you're working on
-explain how you solved a problem
-tell a cool story
Also include images, sounds or video from your project.
# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).
Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another student or with a group.
I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!
